| Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald to tour NZ Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald to tour NZ with special guest The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. Five-time Grammy Award winner Michael McDonald joins singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs to perform their greatest hits, along with songs from their latest albums for three NZ shows in Auckland, Napier and Christchurch this March. Hot on the heels of two sold-out NZ Fleetwood Mac shows, Mick Fleetwood and his band will accompany these legends to perform Mick Fleetwood Blues Band original material along with Fleetwood Mac songs. As a member of The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, Michael McDonald recorded some of his most well-known songs, such as Takin' It to the Streets, Little Darling, It Keeps You Runnin, Minute by Minute and What a Fool Believes (which became a number one single in the U.S and earned him a 1978 Grammy Award for Song of the Year). His latest album, Soul Speak, is the natural follow-up to McDonald's two smash hit explorations of the Motown Records Songbook - the platinum-selling Motown from 2003, nominated for two Grammy Awards, and the following year's gold-selling Motown Two. McDonald's latest album doesn't focus on a particular style; this time, he simply wanted to sing what he loves and bring together tracks like Into the Mystic by Van Morrison with Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Boz Scaggs gained fame in the 1970s with several Top 20 Hits in the U.S along with the #2 album Silk Degrees, which contained the world-wide hit singles, Lido Shuffle, What Can I Say and Lowdown. His latest album Speak Low is the sublime and sexy follow-up to Boz Scaggs' critically acclaimed 2003 standards collection, But Beautiful. Recorded in four days, with the musicians playing together in the same room, Speak Low is filled with a rare kind of energy that erupts when everyone involved becomes alive to the possibilities of what can happen. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of the first record Fleetwood Mac drummer and founding member Mick Fleetwood brings together a show of unparalleled energy and a true vibe of the '60s. Featuring former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and veteran bluesman Rick Vito, bassist Lenny Castellanos, Mark Johnstone on keyboards and with the iconic Mick Fleetwood providing his unmistakable powerhouse percussion style, the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band plays the exact type of music Fleetwood Mac played between the years of 1967 and 1970 - the finest in Blues and Classic Rock & Roll! On the project Mick said, "I've been very excited about the prospect of doing something like this for a 40th Anniversary Tour and I'm so pleased at how it has come together. I can't wait to see the reactions from the fans - the music is there, the energy is there, all of the pieces fit." write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
