| Joshua Slamp Takes Christmas Standards and Reinvents Them White Christmas, Silent Night, and Joy to the World are all songs everyone has heard thousands of times over the years, but Joshua Slamp, a versatile Portland guitarist, is preparing to turn heads by releasing an EP this holiday season that takes those standards and gives them the Delta blues slide guitar treatment. The CD, Slide into Christmas, will be distributed and available to the general public in late November. "I think it is important for musicians to not only create original work but provide new insight on standards. I thought it would be a fun and refreshing take on songs we all hold dear to our hearts. My album will be taking those songs and giving them a Delta blues twist, " said Joshua Slamp. Along with the songs previously mentioned, Slamp will also be covering Angels We Have Heard on High, the First Noel, and a medley of Deck the Halls and Hark the Herald Angels Sing entitled Deck the Herald. He said, "The CD release kickoff begins November 27 in Albany, Oregon and I will be performing a number of my original songs along with music from the CD. It will provide a nice overview of my decades-long history as a guitarist. Once the CD is released, it will be available on most of the major internet music downloading sites such as iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster and Amazon." Additional shows celebrating the new release include the Gotham Tavern on November 28 and an in-store performance at Music Millennium on December 4. There are additional performances listed on the website. Slamp currently performs solo and has given over 200 performances since 2006. His music has been described as "beautiful" and "warm and familiar." write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
