As a result, they are the perfect musicians to lead a celebration as Iowa City and the surrounding region continue to recover from the devastating flood of 2008. The band was an integral part of grassroots recovery efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, sharing joyful music to uplift spirits during that challenging time. The group's music was featured in Spike Lee's documentary "When the Levees Broke." The members of the Hot 8 Brass Band were born and raised in New Orleans and many of them have been playing together since high school. Their energetic, funky sound has been a highlight of Second Line parades in the Crescent City for over a decade. The band performs annually at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and tours around the country and the world. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
