"Songs My Father Loved: A Tribute to the Great Italian-American Singers"

Hofstra graduate John Leone – who spent three years on Broadway as Nick Massi in Jersey Boys, as Marius in Les Miserables and as First Officer Charles Lightoller in the national tour of Titanic – has returned to his alma mater to perform "Songs My Father Loved: A Tribute to the Great Italian-American Singers" on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 8 p.m. This concert celebrating the finest voices of the '40s, '50s, and '60s will take place at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.

Among the artists saluted during this special performance will be Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Vic Damone, Jerry Vale, Julius LaRosa and many others.

During his four years as a Hofstra student, John Leone set a record for most stage appearances by a student – he starred in the Shakespeare Festival, in plays and musicals with the Drama Department, performed in an opera every year, played saxophone and clarinet in the concert band, as well as in the jazz ensemble, and sang baritone in the choir and with the Hofstra Singers. He was also a proud member of the Rathskeller rock band Liberal Arts.

Since graduating, Leone has made his living as both an actor and singer, most recently for three years on Broadway as Four Seasons Nick Massi in the Tony Award-winning smash Jersey Boys. He also starred in the Broadway production of Les Miserables in the role of Marius and on the national tour of Titanic as First Officer Charles Lightoller.

Regionally he has appeared at theaters throughout the country in everything from Shakespeare to Sam Shepard. His television credits include a recurring stint as sports agent Ricky Williams on the Showtime series Soul Food and appearances on all three of the Law and Order franchise shows.

Recently Leone has added the role of teacher to his resume, having returned to Hofstra as an adjunct faculty member in drama
