| Yore Folk Dance Ensemble presents Painted on Water and Hazerfan On Friday, September 11 audience at Fox Theatre, Redwood City will have the chance to be captivated by Painted on Water and Hazerfan featured by Yore Folk Dance Ensemble. Painted on Water is the title of both the band and the ambitious new recording project featuring Sertab Erener, one of the most eminent voices in Turkish pop music, and Turkish rock star, Demir Demirkan, her producer, arranger and songwriting partner. The album, with lyrics in English, combines traditional Turkish folk song with American jazz, pop/rock and blues and features guest appearances by the likes of Al Di Meola, Kai Eckhardt, Tulug Tirpan, Dave Weckl and Trilok Gurtu. Sertab Erener, born in 1964 in Istanbul is a Turkish pop star also a cross-over soprano with a vocal range that extends to high F. She is one of the most successful female Turkish pop singers in her homeland, and is considered one of the divas of Turkish pop music in Europe. Demir Demirkan, born in 1970 in Adana is an Turkish songwriter, arranger, singer, co-producer, and guitarist started his music life when he was 13, and attained national stardom in 1990 when he joined the Istanbul heavy rock group Pentagram as songwriter and guitarist. In 1992, he studied at Musician's Institute in Los Angeles with Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, and MI founder Paul Hanson, also playing studio and live gigs. In 2000 Demir released his eponymous initial solo album with Sony Music. His albums Dunya Benim (The World is Mine) and Istanbul 2004 followed in 2002 and 2004. The latter sold in 11 European countries after his successful tour with Mike Tramp (Whitelion). The songs Demir Demirkan wrote for Sertab Erener were widely accepted in Europe and Turkey. One of these songs, "Every Way That I Can, " won the first prize in the 2003 Eurovision Song Competition and sold 400, 000 units worldwide. HAZERFAN, a new, different, original, listenable, likeable, addicting sound where East meets West is created by die-hard rock musicians from around the globe. HAZERFAN is composing and performing unique original music, a fusion of hard and heavy rock with traditional Turkish and eastern oriental music. Yore is a nonprofit organization founded in November 2005 by several folkdance instructors to teach the basics of Turkish ethnic dances from different regions of Turkey.
