Ten-chi-jin to Perform Japanesque Crossover Music

Ten-chi-jin have announced their "Treasure Ship Tour 2009", which they will hold in the autumn. The band is acclaimed for their unique approach to combine traditional Japanese instruments with Rock, Jazz and various forms of world music. Their borderless songs have a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere, bringing back memories of the old Japan; at the same time they are paeans to Mother Nature. The word "Ten-chi-jin" stands for "heaven (ten)", "earth (chi)" and "human (jin)", which represent the trinity of the eastern cosmology.

One of the objectives of the "Treasure Ship Tour 2009" is to revive Shibai-goya, the traditional theaters that once thrived all over Japan. In the old time, there were over 6, 000 Shibai-goya, but now only a few dozen exist. Depopulation in rural areas and modernization gradually led people to gather at more stimulating attractions. Working together with the local communities, the Japanese Government is now trying to preserve the remaining sites. For example, Yachiyoza in Kumamoto was given the important heritage property in 1988. Also, some architectural acoustics experts start to recognize Shibai-goya as highly developed audio facilities, especially suited for playing Japanese instruments.

Jiro Oma, the leader of Ten-chi-jin, says: "There is a lot of traditional architecture, culture and folk art in Japan; and those are the precious treasures which we must preserve for the next generation. What Ten-chi-jin can do is to protect and appreciate our tradition through our music. I believe this tour will give new life to Shibai-goya and to the local communities."
