| The Capital Arts Festival at the State Theatre The Capital Arts Festival 2009 promises to be so much more - the Festival will include performance events from countries such as Russia, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Pakistan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Austria, America as well as many events by our home-grown stars, and will cover a wide range of arts from poetry to jazz, dance, music, exhibitions and drama. The Capital Arts Festival brings the world's culture to Tshwane on a platter. A taster of things to come: 27 August - 13 September - Arena Theatre: Hugh Masekela: The Rehearsal - 100 years of South African Music - Going Back Home 28 - 30 August - Drama Theatre: Russian State Kuban Cossacks. 28 and 29 August - Momentum: Ma Ravan from Reunion - playing to rave audiences around the country! 28 August - 12 September - Opera Marble Foyer: The Other Pakistan - a pictorial documentary which explores aspects of a country often misunderstood. 28 August - Rendezvous Theatre: The electrifying Will Power from America - viewed as a pioneer in Hip Hop Theatre - has created his own style of theatrical communication fusing original music, rhymed language and dynamic choreography 29 August - The Intimate: Soprano Susanna Moncayo and pianist Silvia Dabul from Argentina. Ms Moncayo's vocal versatility gives her the platform to sing "the classics" as well as folk and tango from her native country. 29 August - Rendezvous Theatre: Our home-grown, sassy Afro-jazz group Ladies in Jazz will be performing with Charlie Valow from Austria - Charlie grew up in Pretoria before moving to Vienna. 30 August - Opera Theatre: The Youth Orchestra of the Federal Republic of Germany (under the auspices of MIAGI, The Black Tie Ensemble as well as Susanna Moncayo and Silvia Dabul. A real treat of a triple bill! 30 August - Rendezvous Theatre: From Spain comes Sumrra, a three-piece jazz band which takes elements from other genres like pop, rock, folk etc to forge an original and free style of jazz. 4 September - 4 October - Momentum Theatre: The Report to an Academy, starring Sello Maake ka Ncube. 6 September - Drama Theatre: A Double Bill Vusi Mahlasela combines his uniqueness with that of the 18-piece SpokFrevo Orquestra from Brazil.
