| The Soul Of John Black at Atlanta’s Smith’s Olde Bar The Soul of John Black will be performing at Smith's Olde Bar, bringing tunes from his "wildly eclectic" (New Yorker) new album, 'Black John' (Eclecto Groove). The "incantatory funk" (Washington Post) on this record has critics claiming "[leader John] Bigham brings it on every track" (Paste Online) and "Bigham has created the next big sound" (Blurt Online). Although John Bigham currently calls Los Angeles home, he graduated from Atlanta's own Carver High School. His musical background is as diverse and eclectic as the new album having collaborated with everyone from Miles Davis to Dr. Dre and Nikka Costa to Everlast. 'Black John' traverses genre boundaries with strong funk, soul and R&B influences, accented by hints of rock, gospel and world undertones. Backing him on this tour are Andre "Padre" Holmes on bass, Kerim Imes on drums and Jacob Lutrell on keyboards. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
