| Lila Downs' First-Ever Career-Spanning Hits Collection Capitol/EMI announces the first ever career-spanning hits collection for the acclaimed Oscar and Grammy-nominated recording artist Lila Downs, to be released on CD and digitally on June 30. The Very Best Of El Alma De Lila Downs features 18 standout tracks, including "Arenita Azul, " "La Cucaracha, " and "La Linea." Several of Downs' songs from critically acclaimed film soundtracks are also featured, including "La Nina" from Real Women Have Curves, "La Llorona" from Frida, a soundtrack for which Downs was nominated for an Academy Award, and "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" from Tortilla Soup. Lila Downs was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and resides there today. Her jazz-tinged traditional folk songwriting and performance style has been inspired by the region's rich local culture and history, including the native music styles of the Maya, Aztec, Mixtec, Nahua, and Zapotec cultures, as well as by her travels to other places in the world. The Very Best Of El Alma De Lila Downs gathers a broad variety of highlights from Downs' recording career, with tracks spanning 1999's La Sandunga through 2006's La Cantina. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
