| TMC Music begins pre-production for PBS “Latin Rhythms” special Emmy-winning producer Drew S. Levin of TMC Mediaworks announced today that the TMC Music division of his company, TMC Mediaworks, has initiated pre-production of the division's initial property, "Latin Rhythms: One World" which will air on PBS in the Summer of 2009. The division will follow up with four more hours of PBS Latin music programming, a pair of 2-hour concert specials starring Ruben Blades and featuring a smorgasbord of today's and tomorrow's hottest Latin acts. According to Executive Producer Drew S. Levin, Hector Galan of Austin, Texas-based Galan, Inc. is directing and supervising physical production to ensure that the presentation has an authentic Latin heart. Foreign networks such as BBC and Germany's ZDF are lining up to bid for overseas rights. Slated to air throughout 2010 are three additional major-event music mini-series, "Country Roads, " which stars the biggest names in country, "Britsounds: The New British Invasion, " which presents the hottest new British bands now taking America by storm, and "The Soul of R&B" which chronicles the emergence and growth of popular cross-over African-American music. "Country Roads" brings together for the first time the country stars representing all genres from in your face Outlaw to the smooth Nashville sound. The series punctuates these stars' concert performances with documentary and candid footage that chronicles the gestation and growth of this multi-stranded bastion of American culture. "Britsounds: The New British Invasion" takes PBS to the bleeding edge with bands that are breaking new ground musically while breaking sales records on the American charts. Following on the heels of these two events is "The Soul of Rhythm & Blues" to star top names in these uniquely American music forms. The series explores the parallel birth and explosive growth of Soul and R&B as they grew into several genres centered around the music scenes in cities such as Detroit and Memphis and labels such as Motown and Stax. Hector Galan, co-producer of the TMC Music roster, like Executive Producer Drew S. Levin, is another PBS mainstay. Galan not only serves on the network's Content Committee, but is also the director/producer of numerous popular PBS specials and series. Drew S. Levin recently produced the PBS ratings winner "Walking the Bible" that was a huge critical success and was also the network's top selling DVD of the year. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
