| Pete Pancrazi at South Mountain Community College Jazz Festival Jazz Guitarist and Vocalist Pete Pancrazi will be the guest artist in concert at the 2009 South Mountain Community College Jazz Festival, May 1-2. Pancrazi delights audiences with his nimble guitar work and warm vocals. He performs a growing repertoire of original compositions, presented alongside straight-ahead and Latin jazz standards. He was recently named by Downbeat Magazine as "one to watch" and a guitar player "deserving of greater attention." Audiences in Arizona voted him the "Jazz Guitar Player of the Year" in AzJazz Magazine's 2000 Readers' Poll. Indeed, this graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Boston has been "one to watch" in the Phoenix area since taking up residence here in 1990. Through the years, he has cultivated a large and loyal following. Joining Pancrazi at the May 1 ( Friday ) concert will be the SMCC Jazz Quartet of Buddy Jones on tenor, Victor Bradley on bass, Earl Halliburton on drums, and Henry Rose on piano. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Performance Hall of SMCC, 7050 S. 24th St., just north of Baseline Rd. Tickets are: $10 general admission; $5 for students and seniors and free for Maricopa Community College District students with valid identification. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at Showup.com . The following day ( Sat, May 2 ), jazz enthusiasts are invited to attend free clinics in Performance Hall. Pancrazi will conduct a workshop on jazz improvisation from 10 a.m. to noon. An evening concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Performance Hall – starting with a performance by Dr. Jerome Garrison's Day Jazz Band, followed by Henry Rose's Vocal and Instrumental Jazz Ensembles, to be joined by Guest Artist Pancrazi.
