| Rare James Brown Concert Screening Wednesday May 6th The Savannah Urban Arts Festival and Psychotronic Film Society Partner for 2 screenings at the Sentient Bean 04.23.2009 – "James Brown: Live at The Olympia Theatre, Paris, 1971" This incredibly rare film features an entire show by the legendary funk superstar backed by what many consider the classic lineup of The J.B.'s. (featuring P-Funk bassist Bootsy Collins). It has never been released or broadcast in the USA, and is a must for fans of soul, funk, jazz and rock. James Brown and a newly-updated lineup of his band played several nights in a row at this historic venue, and most of those nights were professionally recorded on audio only by his record label. Those recordings sat in their vaults until the early '90s, when a single CD compilation off performances from that run of dates was released as LOVE POWER PEACE IN PARIS 1971, a now out-of-print live album that many consider to be perhaps the definitive document of James' early '70s sound. This motion picture was shot with multiple 16mm cameras by a French TV crew and is the only professional quality footage known to exist from this incredibly powerful and historically significant period in James' career. It is a mind-blowing and unrelenting look into the kid of frenzied live concerts that made James Brown one of the most beloved and popular entertainers in the entire world, and a crossover hero to an entire generation of all races. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
