| Saguenay Jazz and Blues Festival On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of State (Agriculture), and Member of Parliament (Jonquiere-Alma), today announced funding for the Saguenay Jazz and Blues Festival. For the 14th year, this event will serve as a showcase for local Saguenay artists, in addition to presenting festival-goers with varied musical programming. The Saguenay Jazz and Blues Festival, taking place this year from March 24 to 29, features performances by more than 80 local musicians. The Festival, which encompasses all forms of jazz music, is made possible by the efforts of approximately 30 volunteers. "Investing in culture is a way to ensure the social and economic vitality of Canadian communities, " said Minister Moore. "That is why our Government supports activities like the Saguenay Jazz and Blues Festival, which provide people with unforgettable experiences, while celebrating arts and heritage." "Organizing this Festival has brought together talented artists of every style imaginable. For the young musicians in this area, it's a great opportunity to establish ties with professionals who will inspire them throughout the rest of their career, " said Minister Blackburn. "I am delighted to see that the Saguenay Jazz and Blues Festival organizers have established winning partnerships, including the one with the Government of Canada, which allows them to continue the Festival's development. "The Saguenay Jazz and Blues Festival is grateful for Government of Canada funding, " said Festival President Jean Bilodeau. "This important collaboration will allow us to highlight many artists in the region and offer a unique festival to the people of Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, as we have for the last 14 years." Funding of $11, 100 is being provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to participate in activities that showcase local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
