Vaudeville Lives in North Hollywood, California

Vaudeville Lives! And North Hollywood's Mayflower Club is the place it will reside beginning Friday, March 27th at 8:00 P.M. Evans and Rogers, known as "the hottest new act in vaudeville, " will present monthly shows featuring vintage musical comedy as the main attraction. The Mayflower Club is located at 11110 Victory Blvd. near the intersection of Victory and Vineland.

Evans and Rogers do more than sing and dance to songs of a bygone era. Their varied talents and understanding of comedy allow them to produce their own variety show and even resurrect great performers such as Eddie Cantor, Al Jolson and James Cagney as their "special guests, " thanks to Rick Rogers' powerful impressions. Says prize-winning author and columnist Wanda Coleman, "Of the two, the sultry diva Evans might seem more 'the straight man, ' but it's not long before she's pulling in as many laughs as fellow jester and ukulele-man, Rogers. Making deft use of cue signs, bells, whistles and snappy ad libs, the charming couple edifies as it entertains. . . ." Noted Jazz singer Herb Jeffries describes Evans and Rogers as "A powerhouse of great entertainment like no other." Actor Jimmy Weldon (the voice of Webster Webfoot and Yakki Doodle) who emceed their show in Brea says about Evans and Rogers, "What a refreshing team!"

For those unfamiliar with vaudeville, it's the original American family entertainment. Out of this institution came the greatest entertainers the world has known: Sammy Davis Jr, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Bob Hope, W. C. Fields, and hundreds more. Vaudeville Lives! is Evans and Rogers' way of preserving not only the music and style of vaudeville, they are reviving the magic of the medium that made so many great entertainers. Photos from their previous shows at http://www.myspace.com/evansandrogers reveal that Evans and Rogers are quite capable when it comes to making vaudeville live again.

The shows at the Mayflower Club will mark the official end of a winter hiatus for Evans and Rogers and the release of their new CD "Standing Right Beside A Rainbow". The shows are for all ages and will run monthly from March until October 2009 and start again the following year 2010. Each month will bring different guest performers to join the fun. Joining Evans and Rogers on March 27th will be singer Richard Halpern, also known as Mr. Tin Pan Alley. Others are to be announced. Tickets are only $18 and can be purchased through the Mayflower Club by calling (818) 769-9805.
