| Bernie Pearl Back on Radio Bernie Pearl Returns to Blues Radio. Noted blues radio personality Bernie Pearl has accepted an invitation to host a two-hour blues show on internet station WPMD, Cerritos College, to be titled "My Kind of Blues". The show will air 3:00-5:00 pm weekly beginning Saturday, January 31 . Re-broadcast times will be announced on the WPMD website. Pearl has a long and distinguished history in blues radio. He is recognized as Southern California's first all-blues DJ on FM radio, KPPC, 1968-70, with his "Nothin' But the Blues". He moved that show to KLON FM, now KJAZZ, in 1980. It was the top-rated program, with the biggest audience (per: Arbitron) and the highest fundraising totals, on the mainly jazz and news public station during his tenure there, 1980-90. Bernie plans to again spin the best blues of all eras, from the 1920's to the present day, augmenting the music with informed commentary. He believes there is too little of the great traditional blues being heard currently, and he intends to build a significant web audience for his take on the authentic blues in the USA and abroad. "My Kind of Blues", hosted by Bernie Pearl debuts 3:00-5:00, Saturday, January 31 on wpmd.org. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
