Mika Pohjola & Jill Walsh Release "Two for the Road"

“American Broadway Songs With A Classy Avant Garde Touch" became the trademark of Nashville-based vocalist Jill Walsh and New York-pianist Mika Pohjola at the turn of the millenium. Ms. Walsh and Mr. Pohjola met in Boston in the early 90's, and started making frequent appearances with their off-off repertory at The Knitting Factory, New York's stronghold for left-off-the-center creations. Appearing as so-called mainstream artists, Ms. Walsh and Mr. Pohjola defied the usual definitions of “new" and “free" by going in the opposite direction.

This duo proudly performs classics by Cole Porter, Dmitri Tiomkin and Richard Rodgers, not to forget Elvis Costello. Ms. Walsh's and Mr. Pohjola's repertoire contains songs which are often forgotten by jazz musicians. It is the contrast between Ms. Walsh's heartfelt yet simple vocal stylings and Mr. Pohjola's lush harmonies which makes the duo and this album particularly fresh and a truly special one.

Two for the Road is a feel-good album for all lovers of Broadway songs. The renditions express masterful lyricism in music and words.
