Soho Theatre Premieres Martin Martini, Bone Palace Orchestra

Australian gypsy punk cabaret sensations Martin Martini and the Bone Palace Orchestra's unique music mixes funk with junk, circus with rock, and everything from waltz and swing to blues. Each gig is an unpredictable, theatrical experience, littered with Martini's unorthodox and darkly funny tales. Through surreal and mystical lyrics, their songs offer a twisted insight into timeless human conditions and political concerns.

Performances will take place from 28 August to 13 September at 9.30pm.

'Martini and his freaky gang thrash out his eccentric, dark, wonderful songs like their sweaty carnie lives depend on it. A brilliant and unique act.' Tim Minchin

'Fat Vaudevillian Rock n Roll... Expect to be seduced and appalled in equal measure.' The Age

This downtrodden troupe of misfits from Melbourne is renowned for its raucous, high-energy stage shows and distinctive bastard-bent song writing. Wheezing, moaning frontman Martin Martini leads an untamed ensemble of electric guitar, trombone, clarinet, double bass and drums.

'Often compared to Britain's Tiger Lillies and Australia's Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen... Throw in a dash of Brecht and Weill, Talking Heads and dirty gypsy lift music, and you get a fair idea of what this junk circus is all about.' The Age

Since its formation in 2005, the band has attracted an ever-expanding following and released three albums (Live at the Rainbow, Dream Until You Die and We're All Just Monkeys). The band has performed across Australia, including numerous sold-out festival runs, from the Adelaide Fringe Festival at the Famous Spiegeltent to the Sydney Opera House.

'Think Baz Luhrmann meets Tim Burton, think The Cat Empire with manic depression.' Beat Magazine - www.sohotheatre.com
