The Festival of Arts Presents Everette Harp

The Festival of Arts kicks off the Summer Smooth Jazz Concert Series on Saturday, July 12 from 1-3:30pm with an astounding contemporary smooth jazz musician, Everette Harp. Everette Harp has been playing saxophone, EWI, Flute, Keyboards and singing vocals for over two decades. He is an undeniably talented saxophonist who combines modern day contemporary jazz and the classic soul he grew up with. This is a great chance to see this legendary performer in Laguna Beach for FREE with Festival of Arts admission ($7).

Born in Houston, Texas, Harp began playing piano at age two and saxophone at four. His earliest influences were gospel music he heard at church and the jazz performers from his high school. Harp moved to Los Angeles in 1988 and toured with Teena Marie, Anita Baker, Sheena Easton and Kenny Loggins.

His first two Blue Note recordings, Everette Harp (1992) and Common Ground (1994) combined funk and urban music with jazz. His 1998 record, Better Days, solidified his place among the chart-toppers of smooth jazz. "My Inspiration" is the latest release from jazz saxophonist Everette Harp. This veteran musician delivers an energetic, funky project with personality, which is not typical of your average smooth jazz CD.

Harp commented, "I believe 'Smooth Jazz' has its place in the music world. It is a valid form of musical expression. I would say it is a lighter form of the contemporary jazz I loved so much in the late 70's, all of the 80's, and into the early 90's."

Admission is free to the Smooth Jazz Concert with the purchase of The Festival of Arts ticket. Festival admission prices are $7 for general admission and $4 for seniors and students. A special 75th Anniversary promotion grants everyone 75 cents admission after 7:50 p.m. every day of the week. Patrons are encouraged to visit the Festival again and again all summer long to enjoy all the art, activities and events offered.
