| “Centrifuge,” from Antherius, Spins Its Way into the #10 Spot Houston-based keyboardist-composer-producer Antherius is all smiles this week as his single "Centrifuge" ratchets up to #10 on the FMQB-AC Radio Chart, alongside Maroon 5, Colbie Caillat and Natasha Bedingfield. The hit single "Centrifuge" from Antherius' second album, "2008-03", has enjoyed rapid success on both commercial and CMJ radio since it was released on March 25, 2008. Antherius' upbeat and unique music is finding its way to a broad new set of fans who enjoy original instrumental tunes that are mainstream in compositional structure but featuring harder beats and acoustic edges draped in chilled/ambient accompaniments. Reviewers across the internet have been praising Antherius' album "2008-03." Matt Howarth of Sonic Curiosity describes the album as "earthy, heartfelt, and chilly mien; quite infectious…" while Joseph Italiano of Skope Magazine adds, "as smooth as glass; look no further; [Antherius] as an instrumental writer, musician, performer;…a balancing act that only the best of the best can pull off…" It has been a very long time since an instrumental hit has fared well on commercial radio, especially in the Adult Contemporary format. Antherius is determined to help get instrumental pop/rock back into radio mainstream – at least to the level instrumental songs shared this space [with vocal hits] back in the late 1960's to the early 1970's. He describes his music as a "casserole of elements" from a very eccentric continuum of influences including Tangerine Dream, Enya, ELO, The Moody Blues, Brian Eno, and legendary composer John Barry. Only a handful of artists like Antherius exist, who execute all aspects of their music creation from composition, performing all [the synth-based] instruments, arranging, engineering, and even the final mastering. On the surface that appears quite daunting, but increasingly possible in recent years by the dramatic improvements in the underlying hardware and software technologies. For such solo-musicians like Antherius and their fans, it is a "new age" indeed. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
