Derel Trucks Makes His Longwood Gardens Philadelphia Debut

Hailed as a "New Guitar God" by Rolling Stone magazine and as "the most awe-inspiring electric slide guitar player performing today" by the Wall Street Journal, slide guitarist Derek Trucks makes his Longwood Gardens debut on Saturday, July 2 at 8 p.m., joined by four-time Grammy Nominee Susan Tedeschi and their band for the Soul Stew Revival Tour.

Trucks and Tedeschi, married since 2001, have recorded on each other's albums and toured together with their respective bands on occasion, but this new musical adventure reveals the two side by side, leading one amazing ensemble. Fans can expect material from both artists' repertoire along with a batch of songs worked up especially for this tour, steeped in blues, roadhouse rock and American roots.

Trucks has shared the stage with the Bob Dylan, the Allman Brothers Band, and Eric Clapton. His musical career began at age 9, when he picked up a $5 acoustic guitar at a yard sale. That seemingly inconsequential purchase changed his life. Within a year, he began touring. A weekend activity quickly became a life's pursuit, and would eventually result in Derek being the youngest player to make Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list, as well as the cover of the magazine's 2007 "New Guitar Gods" issue.

Tedeschi has a formidable reputation as an expressive singer, guitarist and songwriter. She crafts elements of classic blues, rock, R&B, folk and gospel into a distinct style that delights audiences. Growing up in a Boston suburb, she began singing with local bands at 13 and subsequently pursued her passion for music while studying at Berklee and performing around the local club scene. After establishing herself as one of New England's top-drawing live acts, and making her recording debut with her 1995 album Better Days, Tedeschi achieved an impressive musical and commercial breakthrough with Just Won't Burn. The album, on the independent Tone-Cool label, became a massive grass-roots success and achieved Gold sales status.

The Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival concert takes place in Longwood's Open Air Theatre. Premium Seating is $60 and Gold Seating is $48. All tickets include Gardens Admission.
