Singer Kelly Chapman Reveals Story Behind the Music in Real

Kelly Chapman, accomplished singer/songwriter/motivational speaker and entrepreneur, has written "the story behind the music" in her new book, Real: The Truth about Being Single with Kelly Chapman scheduled for a July, 2008 release.

Real is a frank, sister-to-sister conversation about the physical and emotional abuse Chapman endured that eventually inspired the songs on her debut CD, Real. This candid exposé, is packed with spirit, scripture and raw emotion.

Chapman breaks it down to readers. Her journey, filled with abusive relationships, sexual sins, and substance abuse, inspired the award-winning "Heal Me" and other spirit-filled songs.

Borrowing song titles from the CD - from the funky "Shake the devil Off!" to the jazz-inspired "Get Into the Flow, " the encouraging "It Aint Too Heavy, " and "In Your Presence, " that tells of God's power, peace and joy - each chapter is a frank one-on-one about the cost Chapman paid craving a man's love.

"When I wrote the song 'Heal Me, '" writes Chapman in her book, "I was at a point where I'd hit rock bottom. I had just been taken advantage of by - hold onto your chairs - no really, sit down...a minister of the gospel (shhhhh)!

"He took my money. He took my cars and drove other women around the state of Ohio in them. And he was not clean. I'll leave it at that. I was so despondent and I wondered, 'If I could be treated like this by a Christian man, how was this any different from a worldly man?' I was so confused by the whole thing. I cried out to God for answers. I was weak. I was tired.

Real: The Truth about Being Single with Kelly Chapman gives practical and spiritually-inspired guidance and emotional healing to singles looking for a mate for fulfillment. "This is not a book for those who are blessed to be able to call themselves a satisfied single. This is a book for women who are struggling with the wait, " said Chapman.

Chapman reached musical prominence in 2004 with the release of her debut CD, Real. The song, "Heal Me" was an International Songwriting Competition Finalist and the signature song in Black Entertainment Television's promotional commercials for the telethon aiding Hurricane Katrina victims.

Performing since grade school, Chapman lent her talents to background vocals for rhythm and blues artist Tony Terry to gospel artist Charles Woolfork and Covenant. She has also performed internationally as a guest jazz/gospel vocalist with Pianist Doctor Gabs and the late Robert Palmer.

Chapman travels the country ministering in song at churches, concerts, and conferences. She is a sought-after public speaker with an engaging presence. She frequently brings audiences to tears as she candidly discusses the pain, heartache, and ultimate healing of her life's journey.
