Jewish Museum Opens Cultural Summer Program

"Andrej Hermlin and his Swing Dance Orchestra" Present "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen - Jews in Jazz"There are but a few who don't know the song "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen, " but not many are aware of the significant role Jewish musicians and composers played in the emergence of jazz – not only in America, but also in Germany and the former Soviet Union.

The opening of the sixth Cultural Summer Program at the Jewish Museum Berlin addresses this aspect of cultural history with an exhilarating evening concert: On Sunday 1 June, "Andrej Hermlin and his Swing Dance Orchestra" will play compositions by Gershwin and Tsfasman and original arrangements by orchestras of the 1930s and 1940s, among them unforgettable melodies such as "Lady Be Good, " "Teplochod" and "Over the Rainbow."

Andrej Hermlin, Germany's "King of Swing, " will host the evening himself, throwing in the odd anecdote here and there to spice things up! Founded in 1987, his "Swing Dance Orchestra" has been inspired by the legendary American Swing Orchestra in sound, arrangements, instruments, and costume. We warmly invite you to attend this live concert featuring 29 musicians in the Glass Courtyard at the Jewish Museum Berlin. -
