Tom Waits at the Orpheum in Phoenix, AZ

Tom Waits will be performing live at the Orpheum in Pheonix, Arizona on Tuesday, June 17 at 8:00 pm. He will play at the venue again the following night before moving on to El Paso, Texas at the Plaza Theater on Friday, June 20.

Born on December 7, 1949, Thomas Alan Waits is an American Singer-songwriter, composer and actor. Known for his distinctive voice, he has been described by a critic as sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." Combined with his trademark growl; pre-rock styles, including blues, jazz and vaudeville; and experimental tendencies on the verge of industrial music, Wait's music has its own distinct persona. Having appeared in The Fisher King, Bram Stokers Dracula and Short Cuts, Waits won an Academy Award for his work on the One from the Heart soundtrack.

Despite minimal radio or music video exposure, Waits gained a cult following and inspired many songwriters. He has been covered by Bruce Springsteen, "Jersey Girl"; Rod Stewart, "Downtown Train"; and The Eagles with "Ol 55."

Waits produced a few gold albums and he has been nominated for several music awards and has won Grammy Awards for his albums Bone Machine and Mule Variations.
