| Grand Theatre Give Tribute To Frankie Laine Remembering Frankie Laine is at Blackpool's Grand Theatre on Sunday 1st June - a fabulous Frankie Laine 95th birthday tribute starring singing sensation Jeff Hooper with Bill Ashton's renowned National Youth Jazz Orchestra using Frankie's original orchestral scores. Frankie Laine was a legendary American singer/songwriter who was one of the biggest hit-makers of late 1940s/early 1950s. Laine had more than 70 charted records, 21 gold records and worldwide sales of over 250 million disks. Originally a rhythm and blues influenced jazz singer, Laine excelled at virtually every music style from gospel, folk, country, western/Americana to rock 'n' roll. His many hits included That's My Desire, That Lucky Old Sun, Mule Train, Cry of the Wild Goose, Jezebel, High Noon, I Believe, Hey Joe!, Rawhide and Blazing Saddles. There are many tributes, sound-alikes and look-alikes currently in Britain, but none have the same strong family links as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Frankie Laine. When a teenage Bill Ashton sat watching Frankie Laine at Blackpool's Grand Theatre in the 1950s little did he know that 30 years on, his band the internationally acclaimed National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain, would tour with Frankie himself. And 50 years later, the same orchestra are thrilled to perform a special tribute for the late Frankie's 95th birthday featuring all his hits with smooth singing sensation Jeff Hooper! - www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
