David Sanchez 'Cultural Survival'

The new culturally inspired album from from 4-time Grammy Award winning Jazz sax master David Sanchez is now in stores. Released this week (5.13.08) on Concord Picante, the album draws heavily on classic Jazz influences such as Miles Davis & John Coltrane, while fused with David's own distinct variety of Afro-Caribbean and Latin influences.Cultural Survival features 8 straight ahead jazz tracks that showcase a new direction for Sanchez as he debuts a piano-less quartet on all but three of the eight songs and the inclusion of guitar. Explaining Cultural Survival's intriguing title, Puerto Rican born Sanchez says:

"It's generally about the human condition. It started one day when I was just checking out the radio to find out what's going on in the world. You realize you're surrounded by a younger generation that seems a little unconscious, living in their own space, their own reality, and not being very conscientious about the world around them."

David Sanchez has been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards, and his last album, Coral, won the Latin Grammy for Best Instrumental Album in 2005. Beginning May 16, David will kick- off a tour by playing a double bill with Danilo Perez in Chicago and on June 13th will be performing at the San Francisco Jazz Festival.
