Folk star Guthrie at Hard Rock Park

Folk singer and political activist Arlo Guthrie will be in Myrtle Beach on Monday to celebrate Hard Rock Park's eatery named after his legendary song "Alice's Restaurant, " the park announced Friday.

The restaurant is the only one at the park with table service and has a VIP area for "the ultimate rock stars." Guthrie will be in the park at 11:15 a.m. Monday for the media event, though the park will not be open to the public until 4 p.m.

The $400 million theme park is in the middle of its "soft opening" as it gets ready for its first summer season. The park's regular hours will kick in Friday, when it will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. The ticket price will be bumped up to $50, plus $10 or more for parking.

Two of the big coasters, Slippery When Wet and Maximum RPM, are not open yet, but the park hopes to have them ready by Friday, park spokeswoman Megan Winnett said.

On Thursday, the park will be open only to annual pass holders for a concert by One Republic, which has a hit song, "Apologize."

Guthrie, son of Woody Guthrie, is the second big name to visit the park so far. The Moody Blues came to town in October to announce a ride themed after the band's hit song, "Nights in White Satin."

The Eagles, another band with a ride set to a hit song, will perform at the park June 2, and The Moody Blues will play June 3. Tickets for those performances come in separate ticket packages that cost $250.
