| Dave Liebman/Ed Saindon and Depth of Emotion teaming up In response to the success of their recent CD collaboration Depth of Emotion, saxist Dave Liebman and vibist Ed Saindon are teaming up with the group Depth of Emotion for concert & clinic performances. Featuring a unique blend of Liebman's soprano and Saindon's vibes, the recording has been receiving widespread radio airplay in the U.S. and abroad as well as garnering positive reviews from the major trade magazines and internet jazz sites. Joining Liebman and Saindon, will be drummer Mark Walker who is currently with Oregon and recently won a Grammy as a sideman for Paquito D'Rivera's recording Funk Tango. On acoustic bass, will be bassist David Clark who has performed with John Abercrombie, Lyle Mays and John Scofield. Saindon, Walker and Clark all are Professors at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Chicago jazz critic Brad Walseth in ChicagoJazz.net writes, "The combination of vibes and soprano sax is one that hasn't really been utilized very often in the annals of jazz, but in the hands of two masters, Ed Saindon and Dave Liebman, a strong case is to be made for further exploration. "Depth of Emotion" is a highly satisfying release, surprisingly recorded in 3 hours, that features Berklee educator Ed Saindon on piano and 4-mallet vibes and marimba, along with saxophonist Dave Liebman playing Saindon's wonderful compositions." Saindon, who is as passionate about music education as performing, is an active clinician sponsored by Yamaha and Vic Firth. Upcoming appearances include a clinic at Roosevelt University in Chicago on April 11th and a clinic at The Viennese Music Conservatory in Vienna, Austria on May 11th. Saindon's recent book, Exploration in Rhythm, Volume I, Rhythmic Phrasing in Improvisation has been published by Advance Music. The German music publisher is planning to release Volume II, Advanced Rhythms for Improvisation in the upcoming months. F write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
