Legacy Jazz Festival '08 Set for Flagler County, Florida

The North East Florida Jazz Association announced that Freddy Cole, Eddie Henderson, Javon Jackson, Teddy Adams, Doug Carn and Vincent Gardner will perform at their 3rd annual jazz festival. The headlined events will be the highlight of a full week of live jazz performances and other related activities throughout Flagler County, FL.

For more than 20 years, NEFJA has been dedicated to perpetuating jazz, America's indigenous art form, by making live jazz performances accessible to local audiences and by presenting scholarships to talented music students enrolled in a jazz studies program at one of Florida's colleges and universities. To date, NEFJA has presented $27,000 to gifted jazz students including Legacy Jazz Festival '08 performer Vincent Gardner who now performs with Wynton Marsalis' Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as well as his own group. Gardner received his NEFJA scholarship in 1995.

"The festival lineup is truly representative of the jazz legacy," said Muriel McCoy, NEFJA President and one of the original founders of the 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization. "We have jazz legends performing with up-and-coming stars--a wonderful mix of talent and styles and a strong assurance that jazz is alive and well."

The Legacy Jazz Festival begins on May 3 with live jazz, art exhibits and other events being held at a variety of venues throughout Flagler County, FL, which is located midway between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, and will conclude with the headlined events on May 10 - 11 in Palm Coast. “It will be a great chance for visitors to see a different, more laid-back side of Florida while being just a short drive away from some of the most popular sights and attractions. We've got great beaches and some of the most beautiful parks in the state," McCoy added, “and when you put that together with great jazz, it's a perfect vacation destination."
