| Sol Tours Australia "Freedom, everything's a dream...freedom, what does it mean?" Sol sings on his new upcoming CD, scheduled for release in June. The song is deep reggae with bubbling organ and skank guitar, and soulful relaxed vocals. Sol is a Mid-Atlantic touring artist who blends the roots of funk, reggae, blues, and rock with his own band, and tours internationally with the pioneers of the blues. "This is an exciting time" said Sol on a recent phone interview. He heads to Australia this March for one of the worlds most prestious festivals: Bryon Bay's Roots and Blues Festival. On this years bill are acts such as G Love, Buddy Guy, Ozomatli, Wilco, Maceo Parker and many more. Sol performs as part of the Music Maker Revue, featuring artists such as Beverly "Guitar" Watkins and Albert White (of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame) whose musical work influenced the likes of John Lennon and other early rock stars. "These are all my teachers and friends" commented Sol about Music Maker performers. The list of his direct experiences and influences is impressive, including major artists such as Taj Mahal and Kenny Wayne Shepard. Following in the footsteps of Mahal, Sol blends various musical styles on his upcoming CD release entitled "Freedom". The title track won an award at the recent 24th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest in the Open/World music category. You can catch the Sol Creech Band for a live performance Friday April 18 at Champs in Blacksburg Virginia, or at the afterparty for the 5th Congressional Blues Festival (with Robert Cray and Elvin Bishop) in Washington DC on Wednesday April 23 write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
