| Top Vocal Groups Turn Heads With New Sounds Over 100 of the best professional a cappella singers from Germany, Austria, Canada and the United States will take the stage at South Lakes High School for the annual 3 day a cappella music festival, "CASA's East Coast A cappella Summit" from March 7 to 9, 2008. The a cappella groups will use only their voices to perform leads, harmonies and to vocally imitate a virtual orchestra of sounds – including jazz trumpet, classical strings, distorted electric guitar and a full drum set. "Our students simply could not believe it when the contemporary a cappella groups performed pop, rock, hip hop and R&B –all completely a cappella." said South Lakes High School choral director Rita Gigliotti. "They asked me, 'Who's playing the instruments?' I had to tell them again and again: there aren't any! It's just voices!" the concerts will feature Vocaldente (German pop rock), Mauf (Austrian beatbox), Blue Jupiter (New York-based pop funk and jazz and winners of the Oreo Cookie Jingle Contest), Six13 (Jewish and Hebrew rock), a barbershop and vocal jazz group, as well as local favorites, Cartoon Johnny, Euphonism, Doubleshot!, the Chromatics, Blueline, the Vienna Falls Chorus, Exit 245 and the DC Accidentals. "Adults love the pure harmonies and musical complexity; kids love the beats and style" said Jonathan Minkoff, the Executive Director and Producer for the Summit. "People just can't believe their ears. One minute it's so quiet you could hear a pin drop, the next everyone is up dancing and singing along. It's electrifying!" CASA's East Coast A cappella Summit will also feature a high school a cappella competition Saturday at 2PM and 22 master classes open to the public including such topics as producing a CD, beatboxing, copyright law, and musical arranging. Performances take place Friday and Saturday at 8PM, and Sunday at 2PM. Master classes take place all day Saturday and Sunday. Tickets start at ten dollars.
