Raymond A. King and the R.A.K. Something Ain't Wrong Ensemble

The Brecht Forum's Neues Kabarett Music Series Presents: Raymond A. King and the R.A.K. Something Ain't Wrong Ensemble with Matt Lavelle, Warren Smith, Jane Wang, and Michael Wimberly on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Brecht Forum, 451 West Street (between Bank & Bethune), New York, N.Y.

The Brecht Forum is delighted to welcome Philadelphia's Raymond A. King and present the premiere of his new commission and other works with this stellar ensemble-Raymond A. King (piano), Matt Lavelle (trumpet), Jane Wang (bass), Warren Smith (vibes).

Raymond A. King is a renowned pianist who has been performing and composing for more than 40 years. He is a legend in his native Philadelphia and in Los Angeles, having performed with musicians such as Arthur Blythe, Butch Morris, Lester Robertson, Fred Ho and many others. In the 80's he and Sabir had a band in Philadelphia called True Guidance. Mr. King is also a maker of musical instruments made from cardboard which he takes to the schools in Philly to teach children about music and art. By shinning light through carefully cut simple cardboard panels, the finished piece is in fact the shadows on the wall.

The Brecht Forum is a place for people who are working for fundamental social change and a new culture that puts human needs first. The Brecht Forum offers a year-round program of classes, lectures, seminars, art exhibitions, performance s, popular education workshops and language classes in its new, beautifully renovated home looking out over the Hudson River. The Brecht Forum's Neues Kabarett music series has presented monthly avant-garde / free jazz and experimental music concerts since 1998. We create performing opportunities for established and emerging artists (sometimes involving visual artists, dancers and poets) and have helped create a viable, visible new performance space at The Brecht Forum. In addition, Neues Kabarett presents occasional events in other venues such as galleries and community gardens, and is a volunteer-run collective.

Neues Kabarett is made possible by the New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, and with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and New York State Council on the Arts.
