| Roy Hargrove Scores a New Movie Roy Hargrove wrote and performed the intricate jazz soundtrack and musical score for Fred Baker's new film Assata aka Joanne Chesimard. The film's World Premiere was this past Friday, Feb 1, in San Diego as the featured film in the recent San Diego Black Film Festival. Baker's film is about the life of Assata Shakur, the Black Panther revolutionary college girl--almost killed in a police shoot-up on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973. She was then in 77, falsely convicted of the death of one of the Jersey State Troopers, and sentenced to life in prison. Miraculously though, she was able to engineer her escape from maximum security in 1979, fleeing jail to live presently under protective exile in Cuba. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
