| Jesse Stacken Releases "That That" Pianist / composer Jesse Stacken has just released “That That" on Fresh Sound New Talent Records. The album features the Jesse Stacken trio: Stacken, piano; Eivind Opsvik, bass; and Jeff Davis on Drums. Formed in early 2005, the Jesse Stacken Trio has developed into an ensemble that explores the depths of the piano trio format. The instrument roles, improvisation, and form structures have been re-examined, reconstructed and expanded. The result is music that is fresh, exciting, and free. "That That" features ten compositions by Stacken, and two collective improvisations by the trio. Most of the pieces are short sketches, designed to create varying moods for improvisation. Sometimes a soloist actively leads the group. Other times a more collective three-way conversation happens, in which all players contribute equally. The emphasis is on creative interplay and spontaneity. Many of these pieces sound different in each performance. The trio will celebrate the release of “That That" on Sunday February 17, 2008 at the Cornelia Street Cafe, in New York City. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
