Slide Hampton "A Musical Tribute to African-American Greatness"

On February 15th 2008 at the Eisenhower Hall Theatre, West Point, NY the Jazz Knights will present their yearly concert celebrating Black History month... this year will be very different. Living Jazz legend, NEA Jazz Master and Double Grammy winner Slide Hampton has been commissioned by the academy to compose one song for the event. He was so inspired by the importance and magnitude of the celebration that he composed four original compositions (after not having done any original compositions for some time, that's inspiration)...honoring five great individuals of African descent in the process.

The honorees are: Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods and Venus & Serena Williams. Accomplished and revered in their respected fields, the honorees have proven themselves more than worthy of the recognition being bestowed upon them...these individuals exemplify what can be accomplished in today's world as well as providing positive inspiration and direction for young African-Americans for many years to come!

The evening will also include the unveiling of original paintings of the honorees by renown East Orange, N.J. Artist Bradford Brown. Mr. Brown is known for his unique style and technique from his “Jazz Series" collection, these portraits will serve as the perfect compliment to Mr. Hampton's compositions.
