| Eliane Elias to Perform in Support of Her New Release In support of her recent Blue Note Records release, Something for You: Eliane Elias Sings and Plays Bill Evans (January 15, 2008) Eliane Elias and members of her trio, bassist Marc Johnson and dummer Joey Baron, will perform at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, January 22-27 exquisite interpretations of tunes inspired by or drawn from the Evans catalog - including a couple of tunes that had never been recorded. "I felt a strong connection to Bill's music throughout every phase of this project, " Elias adds, "as did Marc. But it was especially strong when we were in the studio. When the red light goes on, there are only a few moments to compose yourself and try to enter into that concentrated place where all that remains is what we hear and play together. When I find that place where I can let go and allow the emotion to pass directly from me to what you can hear on this record, that's making my tribute to Bill in the most sincere and beautiful way that I can." Every moment of Something for You radiates the sound that Elias had begun developing back in her home country of Brazil as a child, based on her unique juxtapositions of elegant phrasing, adventurous harmony and breezy swing, each element complementing the others. In this sense, this album will be no surprise to those who have learned to expect excellence from Elias as a matter of course. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Jazz News :: home page |
