Levon Helm's 'Dirt Farmer'

Levon Helm's 'Dirt Farmer' (Dirt Farmer Records/Vanguard), his first studio album as a leader in 25 years, has earned him sustained attention heading into 2008. Here's a roundup of Helm's recent and upcoming activities spurred by the album:

* Helm's 'Dirt Farmer' earned him a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Traditional Folk Album, as announced by The Recording Academy December 6. The 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held February 10, 2008 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA and will be broadcast on CBS.

* In a long-form interview with host Terry Gross, Helm will appear on Fresh Air today.

* The Levon Helm Band performed on air during Don Imus' return to radio December 3 at NYC's Town Hall. Of the set, NY Daily News' David Hinckley declared, "Levon Helm's band with Larry Campbell played some FIRST-RATE TUNES."

* Amazon.com named 'Dirt Farmer' "THIS YEAR'S TOP FOLK RECORD" and posted the video for "Poor Old Dirt Farmer".
