12 Year-Old Jonathan Russell at Laguardia Performing Arts Center

Jonathan “Jazz” Russell is a sensational twelve-year-old jazz violinist from New York City who performs regularly throughout the metropolitan area.Jonathan has been a feature performer at major jazz festivals including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Jack Kleinsinger's Highlights in Jazz Series, the New Jersey and Great Connecticut Traditional jazz festivals and will make his European debut this spring at the Boheme Ragtime Festival in Hungary.

He has been featured at The Blue Note in New York City and has also performed at other New York City venues such as Iridium and Birdland. In the past he has played with John Lamb, Bucky Pizzarelli, Frank Vignola, Paris Washboard, Titan Hot 7, Pearl Django, Blue Street Jazz Band, James Chirillo, Fryer/Barnhart International All-Stars, Les Paul and many others.

The New York Times has written “when he solos, he embraces his instrument and enters a private cocoon, where he conjures sophisticated improvisations on the melodies of jazz standards”.

On December 7th he will be joined by Benny Goodman alumni Ed Polcer (former co-owner and band leader from Eddie Condon's) and Mark Shane as well as Vince Giordano, leader of the very popular Vince Giordano's Nighthawks and former Jim Cullum band member Kevin Dorn.

There will be an open jam session immediately hosted by the Laguardia Performing Arts Center house band and guests.
