Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra plays Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite

Enjoy Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite, performed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and his unrivaled Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra Friday, December 14, 2007 at Prudential Hall. In 1960, for the first time in his career, the legendary Duke Ellington and writing partner Bill Strayhorn devoted an entire album to another composer's work - a composer no less esteemed that Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky.

Ellington's resulting Nutcracker Suite translates the melodies and mood of that beloved classic into the jazz idiom. The result is a holiday treat as cool as it is festive - and what better way to experience it than in the hands of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and his unrivaled Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, an ensemble that The Chicago Tribune credits with “technical brilliance, stylistic authenticity and tonalsheen.”
