| MaD Fusion in All-Gershwin Program The Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York presents the second concert of its Tenth Anniversary Season on November 14, 2007, with an evening of all-Gershwin music performed by the dazzling, innovative trio MaD Fusion. This program forms part of the Lyric's special CHAMZZ series, highlighting musicians who are melding chamber music and jazz. The concert features classic works of George Gershwin, including Summertime, Fascinatin' Rhythm, Someone to Watch Over Me, and many more. The pieces have all been arranged for MaD Fusion by pianist Matt Herskowitz, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and Juilliard whose playing has been called “extraordinary, high-octane keyboard virtuosity.”MaD Fusion's first album, Forget Me Not, has received worldwide acclaim, prompting musicians like Dave Brubeck to write: “This is the final straw. I'd better retire now.” Barry Manilow described MaD Fusion's work as “the most thrilling music I've heard in years. It gives me hope for the future of music.” MaD Fusion, comprised of pianist Matt Herskowitz, drummer David Rozenblatt, and bassist Mat Fieldes, draws upon diverse musical cultures and genres to forge a completely new sound, one that defies labeling. The music is a progressive blend of jazz and classical traditions with world music. MaD Fusion has appeared at major music festivals in Europe, Canada, and the United States. They are working with the Lyric to bring music to children at the Harlem Day Charter School. The outreach program is sponsored by the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation, and Mad Fusion's two week Residency in Lyric's 2007-2008 season is supported by a grant from Chamber Music America. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
