| The Blues at Bridgetown enters its 15th year The Blues at Bridgetown, Western Australia's original Blues Festival, enters its 15th year. The Blues at Bridgetown Festival is an annual blues music event held over three days in the spectacular settings of the Bridgetown townsite, 272 kms south-east of Perth. The Blues at Bridgetown Festival has been held annually on the second weekend in November since 1993. The program showcases an all-embracing & diverse range of blues music for in excess of 170 hours of music at various venues around the town. A spectacular street party is held all day Saturday which features a variety of entertainment, a fabulous market stall area and a fantastic variety of food stalls. Music Director Pauline Baker is still finalising this year's line up of artists, but one we can tell you is coming is legendary US blues guitarist Jody Williams, and the "legendary" description is entirely and gloriously justified. As the first great string bender on the Chicago blues scene, Jody provided the stylistic bridge between B.B. King and T-Bone Walker (two of his principal influences) and young firebrands Otis Rush and Buddy Guy, both of whom wholeheartedly absorbed his innovations and licks as they modernised the idiom. As a key Chicago session-guitarist during the 50's, Jody added the essential guitar fire to some of that era's greatest blues recordings: Bo Diddley's Who Do You Love, Howlin' Wolf's Forty Four, Billy Boy Arnold's I Wish You Would, and his own shimmering minor key instrumental Lucky Lou. You can hear echoes of Jody in Carlos Santana and Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green, and his impact extends to a legion of contemporary bluesmen on the scene. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
