Brandi Shearer Tapped For Gram Parsons, Oxfam Events

Brandi Shearer, the chanteuse whose album 'Close To Dark' People magazine calls "a very good collection of bluesy, heartfelt tales of love and loss, " will use her sultry voice to raise awareness of Darfur and honor the late, great Gram Parsons in a pair of upcoming shows.

On November 10th, Shearer will perform at Amoeba Music & MySpace.com's "Rock For Darfur" event at the Hotel Cafe in LA. The event is being held to raise awareness of the fighting and genocide in Darfur, which the U.N. calls "the world's greatest humanitarian crisis." Proceeds from the event will be donated to Oxfam America to aid relief efforts in Sudan and neighboring Chad.

Two days prior to the "Rock For Darfur" event, Shearer will join other musicians to celebrate the Amoeba Records release of 'Gram Parsons Archives Vol. 1: The Flying Burrito Brothers "Live" at the Avalon 1969, ' at Amoeba Music Hollywood. Shearer will wrap her "impressively bluesy voice" (Variety) around a number of Parsons tunes, including selections featured on the Archives release.

Shearer's own Amoeba Records release 'Close To Dark, ' with its blend of dreamy, classic '30s and '40s-inspired torch sounds and up-tempo, bluesy rockers, is out now. The LA Weekly raves Shearer has "a heaven-sent, heart-shuddering vocal style that makes her sound worldly and seasoned well beyond her young years."
