Victoria Rummler Dazzles Paris' Famed Bab-ilo

by Mitch Slodowitz¶

This evening Victoria Rummler of Pitch Puppy Productions gave a dazzling, intimate performance to a select crowd at the legendary Bab-ilo in Paris' famed 18th district. Introducing some select songs from her forthcoming second solo album, "Round Trip, " Victoria set the stage for her upcoming follow-up CD with a beautiful array of songs that capped a memorable week in Paris.

The mood of the evening was charged with creative energy and musical virtuosity, topped off with a touch of humor. Even France's disappointing loss in the Rugby World Cup couldn't diminish the night. In what has become her trademark, Vicki alternated her sparkling, clear jazz vocals and improvisation with a wry, down-to-earth rapport with the audience. Her nostalgic new songs about being an expat, "Home Is Inside" and "Island of Nowhere, " were especially well-received, bringing back memories to all who have strayed from home, finding life, love on foreign shores. It was a touching moment for many in the audience who are living this emotion.

Her sassy cover of the jazz standard "Teach Me, " along with pianist Nico Morelli's accompaniment added a perfect blend of swing, rhythm and lyricism, and surprise guest jazz flautist Andrea Romani provided the icing on the cake with high-powered solos on "The Days of Wine and Roses" and "You Don't Know What Love Is."

The concert ended with a seriously funky cover of "Walking in Your Footsteps" by the Police, illustrating Vicki's incredible flexibility in different genres while remaining true to her musical voice.

Her next scheduled concert in Paris will be on December 16th at the world famous Paris jazz haunt, the Sunside, located at 60, rue des Lombards, 75001 France, Métro Châtelet. It will prove to be a wonderful evening of jazz as well as Vicki's official debut of her new CD along with her full band. If you are a true jazz fan and you are in Paris on December 16th, you need to go and see her show. Truly a remarkable performer and artist, and one that we will hear about for years to come.
