| Christian McBride at the Jazz Museum in Harlem Take a trip to the Harlem School of the Arts on Tuesday October 16th for yet another Jazz for Curious Listeners set with museum co- director Christian McBride, or bring your teen to our Harlem Speaks Education Initiative class on October 20th so they too can share in the cultural wonder and beauty that is jazz. Not only is co-director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem Christian McBride one of the best bassists in the world--he was chosen by the legendary Sonny Rollins to perform in a trio with Roy Haynes at a historic 50th anniversary concert at Carnegie Hall on Sept. 18, 2007--he is also extremely well-informed on the history of jazz and other American styles of music. He brings his downhome eloquence to the Harlem School of the Arts on this day off of his tour with Pat Metheny Trio. More recently McBride held sessions on Fusion, and shared the stage with director Loren Schoenberg to discuss their favorite recordings. This week McBride presents, “What's Happening Now”. He'll play music by some of today's most dynamic jazz artists - Robert Glasper, Christian Scott, Tia Fuller, among others keeping the flame of this great music alive. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
