| Sarah Manning and Shatter the Glass "Jazz at the Museum" The Oakland Museum of California announces a special evening of jazz with Sarah Manning and Shatter The Glass on Friday, November 9. This special concert is part of the Museum's ongoing concert series in its intimate 240-seat James Moore Theatre. Formerly from the Bay Area, Sarah Manning recently moved to New York City and makes a triumphant return to perform with the new group, Shatter The Glass, with Art Hirahara on piano, Thomson Kneeland on bass, and Kyle Struve on drums. The group will perform her latest original compositions. Manning says, “Two key objectives of Shatter the Glass are to provide a role model for women and girls interested in the music and to eradicate the notion that women are somehow 'the other' in jazz, as perpetuated by the many 'Women in Jazz' festivals, and novelty 'girl groups' and events that marginalize their contributions.” Alto saxophonist and composer Manning is a compelling voice in modern jazz and Shatter The Glass continues her impressive output including the acclaimed 2006 release, Live At Yoshi's: Two Rooms Same Door, on the ArtistShare label. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
