MNMP Records Signs Deals for Paul Nash 'Jazz Cycles'

MNMP Records has signed distribution deals for the soon-to-be released full length album by Manhattan New Music Project performs Paul Nash: Jazz Cycles. Jazz Cycles is the first of two CDs meant to represent the definitive works that sum up the musical journey of the late jazz composer and performer Paul Nash.

Cadence North Country will distribute the CD to stores across the U.S. starting October 2nd, while German-based finetunes will provide digital distribution in major and specialized online retail outlets on October 26th. Manhattan New Music Project will present a special CD release event for Jazz Cycles featuring the band that recorded the album in the last year of Paul Nash's life: Shane Endsley (trumpet); Bruce Williamson (soprano & alto sax); Tim Ries (tenor sax); Jim Ridl (piano); Vic Juris (guitar); Jeff Carney (bass); and Grisha Alexiev (drums).

The album has already enjoyed significant radio airplay on 25 separate stations and shows in markets that include Boston; Portland; Detroit; Albuquerque; Raleigh, NC; Toledo, OH; and Omaha, NE; as well as in Canada and Australia. The reception from the press has been no less supportive:

”The unwavering dedication of the members of MNMP to the legacy of Nash and his incomparable work is heard in bursts of joyous conviction, anguish and urgency. Jazz Cycles, amazingly recorded in a single six-hour session, is an adventure in risk taking. Nash left a bright light shining on the music world.” - John Barron, All About Jazz

Jazz Cycles is one of the last recordings Paul produced with his ensemble, the Manhattan New Music Project, but the material in this set has been developed over many years. These pieces have a richness which makes them worth playing and hearing many times over. Paul's compositions were orchestrated with compelling accompaniments and background figures that inspired his soloists to greater heights. Additionally, Paul included beautifully scored ensemble passages utilizing the wide variety of instrumental colors available in his ensemble. Written from materials collected over the course of 30 years and completed in the last year of his life, Jazz Cycles is a kind of suite where each track may be heard as a movement in a larger artistic structure.
