| Recognition for Charmaine Clamor The Filipino Women's Network announced today that world/jazz vocalist, composer, and arranger Charmaine Clamor has been selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the United States. Ms. Clamor's honor is in the category of Innovators & Thought Leaders, which recognizes “women who have broken new ground through vibrant, energetic presentations of critical ideas, transforming the way people think, in the fields of sports, arts and letters, performing arts or through pop culture.” Clamor [pronounced clah-MORE] is the creator of “jazzipino,” a musical form that combines the soul and swing of American jazz with the words, melodies, and languages of the Philippines. Her critically acclaimed album, “Flippin' Out” (FreeHam Records), sung in English, Tagalog, and Bisayan, contains a five-song “Filipino Suite,” and has appeared on the JazzWeek World Music Chart for 7-straight weeks, an historic first for a Filipina jazz singer. Clamor is also the co-founder of JazzPhil-USA, a nonprofit organization that mounts the annual Filipino-American Jazz Festival at Hollywood's Catalina Bar & Grill. She has been cited for bringing a new audience demographic to jazz music. “As an American citizen with strong ties to my birth country of the Philippines, I am doubly honored to be recognized as both a Filipina and an American artist,” Clamor said. “Jazz is America's greatest original art form.
