Bernie Pearl At M'dears

For the past four years blues guitarist Bernie Pearl has hosted the Monday Night Blues Jam at M'Dears in Los Angeles on Western and 78th. Bernie's history goes back to working at his brother's legendary Ash Grove club where he learned how to play the blues directly from the masters themselves, sometimes even playing on stage with Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Mama Thornton, J.B. Hutto, Johnny Shines & Walter Horton, Koko Taylor, and Freddie King, among others.

At M'Dears Bernie leads the band that includes: Michael Barry on electric and upright bass, Willie T. Brooks on drums and Tadg Galleran on keys and harmonica. Tadg also plays harp with the King Brothers Band and was an original cast member of Hair. Some of the blues jam regulars include: harp player Jon Gindick, who conducts harmonica camps around the country; “Kid” Taylor a talented local guitarist, singer and songwriter; Mr. RTD a retired bus driver and powerhouse vocalist, and some up-and-coming players from East L.A. who have made it their Monday night hangout.

M'Dears Bakery & Bistro is best known for their highly rated California style soul food. Arrive before 9:00 p.m. on Monday for a delicious dinner or dessert then step into the back lounge and enjoy some of the best blues musicians the city has to offer.
