Juan Oskar: Superhero

Juan Oskar is back after two years of preparation for the release of his new concept album Superhero. This time around each track and its music is designed to represent a different comic book character. This recording is a departure from Christmas Is For Grownups Too, where Oskar explored his many influences and geared it towards the Holidays.

On this release he cuts loose with his jazz and rock foundations as a springboard for his fusion of keyboard and trumpet wizardry. Oskar uses the Yamaha Motif ES6 Keyboard on all the tracks, and he employs the Bobby Shew Signature Bb Trumpet on eight of them.

On the first two tracks Oskar manages to cover the gamut of genres and pump out music that would appeal to a vast cross section of tastes and age groups. He takes two instruments and makes them sound like an orchestrated pop-rock ensemble on the upbeat opener and title track "Superhero." On the ensuing track, "Viejito 2053, " his trumpet takes the lead and it gives the track a definitive funky, contemporary jazz feel with an underlying techno beat. As the album progresses you hear much more of this same variety of fusion with tracks running just over two minutes to nearly five minutes in length.

Juan Oskar has a unique talent and approach to his recordings, and with one listen to his new album Superhero you will most certainly agree that one person can create superior music with the right attitude, instruments, creativity, and with a strong indie spirit to push it along.
