| Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Presents Heath Brothers The Heath Brothers open BQCM's “Jazz at the Conservatory” series with two sets on Saturday, October 6, at 8 & 9:30 p.m. The Heath Brothers were formed in 1975 by brothers Jimmy (tenor saxophone), Percy (bass), and Albert “Tootie” Heath (drums). Although Percy passed away a few years ago, Jimmy and Tootie are still performing throughout the country. Brooklyn Conservatory is pleased to present two sets of their predominantly “hard bop” sound. Through their individual and collective careers, these brothers have become true jazz royalty. They have performed with an extensive list of jazz greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Chet Baker. Their exciting and enduring careers have been frequently documented, most notably in 2004 when “Brotherly Jazz: The Heath Brothers” was created. Filmed shortly before Percy Heath's death, this documentary chronicles some of the socio-political issues many jazz musicians dealt with in the later 20th century, including segregation and discrimination. Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit community schools of the arts in the nation.
