Fab Trio at Sweet Rhythm

Fab Trio (Joe Fonda - bass, Barry Altschul -drums, Billy Bang - violin) will perform at Sweet Rhythm, New York Fri. & Sat. Sep 28 -29. Manhattan-based bassist Joe Fonda (see photo) assembled this unconventional trio on an uncanny hunch that the combination of sonorities and musical personalities would be a compelling one. Following the FAB Trio's release of Transforming the Space (CIMP), they have been performing festivals and tours for over six years, and continuing to explore the dynamics of their particular lineup.

Drummer Barry Altschul is a crucial figure in contemporary jazz since the 1970s, and has contributed his sensitive accompaniment to projects by Dave Holland, Chick Corea, and Anthony Braxton, to name a few, in addition to his own projects. Billy Bang is one of the great violinists in the history of jazz, a name to put alongside Joe Venuti, Stuff Smith, and Leroy Jenkins in the annals of the music. He has collaborated widely, as well as leading his own projects including the widely- praised recording Vietnam: The Aftermath, a powerfully evocative reflection on his involvement in the Vietnam War. The FAB Trio encompasses some of the great maverick spirits from the recent history of jazz and American improvised music.
